The v/h journal / Visual note

The core function belongs with the product

You should be able to use the core function of a product you own without keeping a service running.

For v/h, that means designing the computing needed for the job into the device itself.

Our aim is straightforward. Power it on and use it without an account, a companion app, an internet connection, or a subscription.

Local operation creates engineering constraints around cost, power, size, and performance. We have to solve those constraints as part of making the product useful. A prototype that depends on a cloud service for its essential work would leave that part of our philosophy unproven.

Each v/h utility should also stand on its own. Buying one should give you a useful capability without requiring the rest of an ecosystem.

These are design requirements for our first product, which is still in development.

An ivory and charcoal v/h graphic. The headline reads Yours to use. Four lines state the design requirements: No account for the core job, no companion app, no internet connection, and no subscription. The footer says A design requirement for our first utility.
