Design the action and the check together

A device can follow an instruction and still leave the job unfinished.

Imagine a device meant to move an object. The motor turns, but the object slips and stays where it was. A record of the motor running would tell us very little about whether the task succeeded.

For v/h, an agent under the hood needs feedback about the result it is meant to produce. A local model should use the device's inputs to check what happened after acting through its tools.

During design, we want to identify an observation that distinguishes success from an attempted action.

The check should help determine the hardware, the software and what the owner sees. If the device cannot verify the result, it should communicate that uncertainty.

The document uses an imagined task to explain the requirement. Our first utility is still in development.
